Protecting Your Accounts

The escalation of fraud is a concern to all of us. New scams are surfacing regularly that involve counterfeit checks passed off to unsuspecting consumers, including Internet, job offers and International Lottery Schemes among many others.

Chelsea Groton Bank wants you to understand the risks of accepting a check (including a bank check) from someone you do not know.

It is important to understand that you are responsible to the bank for all checks you deposit or cash at Chelsea Groton Bank under the laws of the Uniform Commercial Code. Even if we make the funds available to you, we cannot guarantee that the check is good and has cleared the maker's account. In some cases, it may take months for a check to be returned to us, especially if it is fraudulent.

We want to help you avoid becoming a fraud victim. If you have questions or concerns about a check you receive, please ask a manager or customer service specialist at any of our 14 branches for assistance before you deposit or cash the check. This is especially true if you are being asked to send (or return) funds to someone in conjunction with accepting the check.

We value our relationship with you and we want to ensure that you and your deposits are always safe, sound and secure.

Thank you for choosing Chelsea Groton Bank.
